Today, it’s time to play conductor as you’ll be creating music using AI. |

Project: Create Music With AI |
Estimated time: 30 minutes |
Tools: WavTool |
Context Building |
Being able to create music has always had a fairly high barrier to entry. It can be costly – because of the need to buy or hire instruments and take lessons. |
It can require a lot of time investment and patience – learning an instrument doesn’t come naturally to everyone and learning an instrument can take years to perfect. |
The introduction of DAWs (digital audio workstations) and VSTs (virtual studio technologies) helped to reduce this barrier to entry and make music production more accessible to non-musicians. But creating good music has typically still required some knowledge of music theory or the technical ability to control DAWs and VSTs. |
Now, with tools like WavTool, you can use AI to create music using just text prompts! |
That’s what you’ll be exploring in today’s lesson. |
Being able to create music using just text prompts is perfect for non-musicians who want to create music for small projects or personal ventures. Think jingle music for a podcast or transition music for a YouTube channel. All you need to do is be able to describe the feel you want to create and the context behind your creation, and you’re able to create something in seconds. |
For seasoned musicians, AI-assisted music creation can be useful for getting initial ideas off the ground, before the ideas are then developed in a DAW, or AI can help out when you’re stuck during the creation of a track and aren’t sure quite where to take it next. |
In this lesson you’ll learn: |
How to create a 10-second music clip using AIBasic editing features in WavToolHow to add new instruments to your track using AI |
Let’s Prep |
In this lesson you’ll be creating a 10-second piece of music for a fictional YouTube channel, ‘Permissionless’. This is the type of music that could be used for a short intro, outro or maybe a transition between segments. |
You’ll start by creating a 10-second piece of music from a prompt. You’ll edit your track to make the music fade out, and then you’ll add a new instrument to your track to complete the music. |
The structure of the prompt that you’ll use to create music follows a similar structure to the PREP framework you learned about in day 3, but without the ‘R’. In this example, we don’t need to define the role of the AI because that context is already set natively within WavTool. It knows it’s here to help create music! |
As a reminder: |
Prompt: Setting the context for your interaction.Role: Defining the AI’s role in this scenario.Explicit Instruction: Clearly stating what you want AI to do.Parameters: Defining the scope and limits of the task. |
If we deconstruct the initial prompt from today’s lesson, it fits into this framework as follows: |
Prompt: I’d like to create a short jingle for my educational YouTube channel, ‘Permissionless’.Role: Defining the AI’s role in this scenario.Explicit Instruction: Please create an intro and outro clip that I can play on this channel. The music should feel positive, empowering and uplifting. It should feel more personal than corporate.Parameters: Create something that is synth led and up to 10 seconds in length. |
